I often have a hard time falling asleep, I can toss and stay for hours in my bed without even taking a look at my iPhone ,eyes closed waiting for Morpheus to take me. I can’t say that I’m a real insomniac since it only happens when I’m stressed out or excited and I always end up falling asleep. So, for a couple of months I tried different techniques to fall asleep faster. I’d like to share with you the ones that I found most effective.
Stretch before sleep.
I found many Youtube videos that show you how to stretch to help you fall asleep. The very first video I tried is this one (in French) and it was for me really magical, just like a miracle! It has been so effective that I am able to fall asleep in a couple of minutes after doing it. Basically, this type of stretch focuses on the area where the stress is concentrated. So it accelerates the transition between the awake phase and the sleeping phase. I also find the Boho Beautiful yoga before sleep very effective.
Practice some meditation
Meditation is also a great way to appease you and help you fall asleep. Once again my big favorite is guided meditation by Boho Beautiful. Here is a playlist. I strongly recommend it to you if you are a beginner, but if you are used to meditate you can easily do it alone with some calm music, or in a quiet place. Take some time to close your eyes and sit down, on your bed for example.
Read a book
Reading a book is very effective for me. Not an ebook, a real book with real pages that give off that nice paper scent. I’m not that big of a reader, but reading is always a great way for me to relax and I end up falling asleep. I can’t read more than 20 minutes at night before feeling my eyes getting heavy. Of course, I’m aware that this technique will not work for everybody, since some people can devour books throughout the night. Once again, those tips are based on what works for me.
Listening to calm music
One more thing that’s is very effective for me, is listening to calm music. I searched some tunes on youtube, such as Asian relaxing music or beach relaxing music. That’s my big favorite and it helps me escape and start dreaming. I imagine myself on a calm paradisiac beach, for example. Search for the mood you enjoy the most, why not a campfire near a river sound, or a tropical forest sound and music.
I hope these tips will help you as much as it helped me to get deep and restful sleep. Let me know in the comments below if you have some other tips to fall asleep.
